Our little city of Rockport has had more than it's share of news this week. The U-tube bit, and all related to it, has covered the globe. The TODAY show gave a full ten minutes to an interview and opinions. None of that was good news.
Early Thursday morning a fire broke out in our downtown area and wiped out a complete apartment complex, taking the lives of two persons. It was a massive fire calling for every fire department in the area to respond. Some escaped by jumping from second story windows. Several injuries occurred. A hundred or more personnel were present to be involved in this tragedy
As I reflect on it all I am thinking how out of balance our priorities of concern can become. More than three million people were watching a video of a family conflict that happened in Rockport and raising their voices in protest, or making comments. In a far more serious event where two died and others were injured there was not nearly as much interest or concern. A business was destroyed and fire-fighting personnel risked their lives as they sought to save other downtown buildings. Certainly not minimizing uncalled for actions, something far more critical was taking place.
In the meantime our city personnel have been under severe stress this week. I think we are all ready for a more typical week in quiet Rockport, Texas, where the news events normally involve fishing and football. Yes, there are times when NO NEWS is good news. See you at church.
